1995 "Kid's Wish'N To Go Fish'N" Campaign

J.C.A.A. is supporting the Valerie Fund'‘s Camp Happy Times for young patients with cancer and blood disorders in New Jersey. It was opened in 1983 and has provided vital psychological boosts for many children and their families since. This way these youngsters can experience the typical summer camping experience.

Camp Happy Times is a one-week camp for children 6-16 living in or being treated in New Jersey. All of the children have or have had cancer. Young adults who are over 16 can join the Junior Counselor Program for ages 17-20.

The activities include swimming, boating, fishing, sports, arts and crafts, and creative expression. The lakes and fresh air of the campgrounds are most appealing.

If you, or your fishing club, would like to send a donation to the Jersey Coast Anglers Association's, office for this worthwhile youth fishing program, please send a check or money order care of J.C.A.A. Youth Ed., 1201 Hwy. #37 East, Suite 9, Toms River, NJ 08753 or see me at the next J.C.A.A. meeting June 27, 1995.

AQUATIC EDUCATION

Marie Frolio, JCAA Aquatic Education Coordinator, attended the recent Coastal Workshop for Teachers at Wetlands Institute Stone Harbor, New Jersey. She will work with NJ state educators and develop individual plans for facilitating programs. Please keep in mind free workshops for Project Aquatic Wild will take place throughout the state. For more information please phone Larry Sarner, NJ FG&W, - I&E 609/748-2031.

Fifty-two students of the McGalliard Elementary School, Hamilton Township, NJ have participated in several aquatic education activities during their field trip to Island Beach State Park. The aquatic life hands on learning lessons were provided by educator's Marilyn Truesh, Island Beach State Park, and Marie Frolio, J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee. It was a fun filled trip for the students and many of their questions about aquatic and wildlife at the park were answered.

National Fishing Week Celebration

Seaside Heights will continue the celebration of National Fishing Week till June 18th and award prizes to children that participated in their National Fishing Week Coloring Contest and attend their Seafood Festival. The Seaside Business Association selected the National Fishing Week clip art cartoon character Garfield for their coloring contest. Jim Davis, and his lovable fat cat Garfield are serving as the National Honorary Co-Chairmen (Chaircat?).

A Fun Surf Casting Seminar at Island Beach State Park

We issue many thanks and gratitude to Bill Vibbert, Island Beach State Park superintendent, for the use of the park facilities during National Fishing Week. Bill has always supported our youth fishing programs and also helps with events. The twenty five rods and reels ABU Garcia donated for surf fishing are available for surf fishing instruction.

Please phone the J.C.A.A. office if your club would like to offer a surf fishing program.

More NFW

The Girl Scouts of Brick, NJ hosted a fishing program entitled "Kid's Teaching Kid's" during National Fishing Week, June 5-11, 1995.
