President's Report

by Rich Esposito

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association September 2001 Newsletter)

Although this year’s Fluke Tournament has come and gone, I’d like to take one more opportunity to thank all the sponsors for their generosity, for without their donations, this event could never reach the magnitude that it is. From Resorts Casino Hotel, Cobia, Yamaha, Penn Reels, Boaters World, Raymarine, Canyon Gear, The Fisherman, The New Jersey Angler, Reel Saver, and everyone I may have forgotten, I’d like to say thanks on behalf of all those who entered the tournament. I’d also like to extend a word of gratitude to all the volunteers who donated their time and effort behind the scenes, especially Tournament Chairman Rich Pasko and Office Manager Phil Celmer.

Although we are in the midst of our summer hiatus of monthly meetings, the next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night, September 25th, there are a couple of issues that need to be addressed. First, we are taking nominations for the Sportsperson-of-the-Year. We invite all clubs to submit the name or names of persons that should be considered for this award. We will be setting up a nomination committee who will be reviewing these nominations, and the results will be posted in the September newsletter and then voted on at the meeting on the 25th. This leads me to the second issue, which is the Sportsperson-of-the-Year Dinner/Dance to be held on October 28th at Crystal Point Marina.

I am pleased to announce that Senator Jon Corzine is schedule to this year’s keynote speaker. There will be dancing with a DJ, along with a Silent and a Chinese Auction. A fun time is guaranteed, and we are looking for all member clubs to sponsor a table and to help with securing door prizes and auction items for this event. Now is time for all member clubs to join together to make this event a success and stop relying on the same individuals year after year. We need your support and we need it now! This year’s chairman is Vice President Tom Siciliano and I will be the co-chairman. You can contact either of us, or call the JCAA office, if there are any questions, or if you would like to volunteer to help with putting this affair on. Please look out for the invitations that will be mailed to all member clubs, and please return them as soon as possible, along with your remittance. I again would like to stress that we are counting on the support of all member clubs.

The New Menhaden Protection Bill S2252 passed through the assembly. This is clearly a victory for our side. The next step will be to see that the Senate passes this bill. I strongly urge everyone to contact their senators and insist that they support Bill S2252. If anyone needs to know who their senator is, please call the office and we will provide you with the necessary information.
