EVENTFUL WEEKEND AT CAPE MAY

The Jersey Coast Anglers Association’s Youth Education Committee was invited to attend the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Inc. 65th Anniversary Awards/Seminar event at Cape May, NJ. Over one hundred people participated in the weekend festivities at the Marquis de Lafayette beachfront hotel. We supported the event by providing surf fishing demonstrations and a fly tying seminar for Federation members and their guests.

NATIONAL FISHING WEEK

New Jersey offers two free freshwater fishing days Saturday and Sunday June 3-4, 2000. Children and their parents can experience freshwater fishing at New Jersey’s public fresh waters without a fishing license or a trout stamp. However, all other freshwater regulations, including size and daily catch limits, remain in effect. For more information please check the New Jersey Fish & Wildlife Digest. It is available at most tackle dealers throughout the state or visit their website at: www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw

The Jersey Coast Anglers Association’s Youth Education Committee will be hosting a youth fishing clinic at the Fort Monmouth School Age Service Center during National Fishing Week, June 3-11, 2000. Children will learn about freshwater and saltwater flies and how to make a casting can. National Fishing Week promotional material and fishing tackle were donated by TECOM/Vinnell Services, Base Support Contractor employees. We thank all for their generous donation.

LANES MILL SCHOOL READING RALLY

The Jersey Coast Anglers Association’s Youth Education Committee was invited to attend the Lanes Mill School, Brick, NJ Reading Rally, on May 19, 2000. Greg Kucharewski presented a seminar about job opportunities, youth fishing clubs for schools and the award winning Future Fisherman Foundation’s "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" program. Over 60 children participated in the HOFNOD program and all children received a goody bag filled with fishing literature, complements of the Jersey Coast Anglers Association. Dr. Eleanor Bochenek, author of "Young Peoples Guide To Saltwater/Freshwater Fishing," donated a copy of her book to each student attending the reading rally.
