I would like to remind everyone that time is running out for you to send in your early entry fee for the 6th Annual Jersey Coast Fluke Tournament. The deadline date is May 30, after that the entry fee is $85. So register now and tell a friend before you miss out on an outstanding tournament. Rich Pasko and Phil Celmer are doing an outstanding job making sure that everything is running smooth. Way to go guys. We are still looking for door prizes for the Tournament so if you can get door prizes let us know. For answer to any questions on the tournament call the JCAA office at 732-505-6565.I hope everyone is having a good start to the fishing season. Just a reminder to keep in mind that fishing regulations can change at any time during the year. A good example is striped bass this year. As of May 17, 2000 there was a change is size. Now there is one slot fish which must be 24 inches to 27.99 inches and the other fish must be 28 inches or larger. So check the regulations before you go and enjoy the resource. We at JCAA try to get the information out as fast as we receive it. A good source to get this information fast is to get on Tom Fotes e-mail list. His e-mail address is tfote@JCAA.org.
I attended the public meeting on striped bass held by the Division of Fish and Wildlife in Toms River on May 18, 2000. I was expecting to hear all the individuals that complain about what is wrong with the management plan. The meeting is to gather public comment on Amendment 6, which is long-term management of the striped bass stocks, including policy issues. When I got there I was very surprised to see only 6 people. In attendance were 4 JCAA Clubs, a commercial fisherman and outdoor writer Al Ristori. This is the place where you can voice your opinion on the future of striped bass. I guess all those individuals that complain are just blowing smoke and just dont care. If you couldnt make it and still would like to voice your opinion, you can write. Written comments can be sent to Robert Beal, Fishery Management Plan Coordinator, Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, 1444 Eye Street NW, Sixth Floor, Washington DC 20005. Comments must be submitted by June 1, 2000. You can Fax at 202-289-6061 or E-mail at Rbeal@asmfc.org.
You may have noticed that our newsletter sponsors that appear on the cover of our newsletter are cleaner. This took a lot of time and I would like to thank Phil Celmer for a job well done. It also took time to make sure all sponsors were still on board and Paul Smith and Frank Richetti did this job. We are still looking for people to get involved with committees or help in some other capacity. We cant rely on a few to do all the work, so get involved, and give us a call. It is your future as well as your families to protect the resource.
We Need Your Help to Keep fighting to protect the resource for the future. Get Involved
