NEW JERSEY FISHING FACTS:

New Jersey’s coastal bays and estuaries are critical nursery grounds for the young of our most important commercial and recreational species.
Preservation of these habitats will be critical for sustaining New Jersey’s coastal stocks for future generations.
In 1966 Congress noted that marine resources constituted a far-reaching, largely untapped asset of immense significance to the U.S. Yet only 30 years later, two-thirds of the world’s fisheries are overexploited or in danger of being exploited.
Wise management policies will be needed to rebuild these fisheries!
RECREATIONAL & COMMERCIAL FISHING CONTRIBUTE ROUGHLY $2 BILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY TO NEW JERSEY’S ECONOMY
The New Jersey Sea Grant College Program adopts NOAA’s strategic plan for rebuilding sustainable fisheries by refocusing policies and fisheries management planning on increased scientific information and informed decision-making. This is one of Sea Grant’s most significant goals for the next decade.
