The VIMS report, saltwater Angling and Its Economic Importance to Virginia by Dr. Jim Kirkley and colleagues at VIMS is based upon 1994 data. It details the characteristics of the recreational fisheries by region and species and the summarizes economic impacts associated with each segment.
Overall, recreational fishing generated 10,944 jobs in 1994 in for Virginia.
These activities generated $477 million in sales for the state and $269 million in incomes for individuals and businesses.
All from 11 million pounds of fish landed.
