FREE FISHING DAYS

IN NEW JERSEY

National Fishing Week June 2 - 8

Free Fishing Days in New Jersey are Saturday & Sunday June 7-8, 1997. Residents and non-residents may fish the public waters of New Jersey without a license or trout Stamp. All other regulations apply.

Last year the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee, coordinated fishing and aquatic education programs for the week long celebration of National Fishing Week. Member clubs that wish to conduct a National Fishing Week program can request information from the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee. Please phone in the number of participants in your National Fishing Week event to the J.C.A.A. office so that we can include your fishing clubs accomplishments in the J.C.A.A. newsletter. All J.C.A.A. National Fishing Week participant totals will be calculated and counted in for a grand total.

Also during National Fishing Week, if your club would like to make a donation for children with cancer that want to go fishing. The J.C.A.A. is supporting the Valerie Fund's Camp Happy Times for young patients with cancer and blood disorders in New Jersey. Camp Happy Times was opened in 1983 and has provided vital psychological boosts for many children and their families since. Camp Happy Times is a one-week camp for children 6-16 living in or being treated in New Jersey. All of the children have or have had cancer. Young adults who are over 16 can join the Junior Counselor Program for ages 17-20. The activities include swimming, boating, fishing, sports, arts and crafts, and creative expression. The lakes and fresh air of the campgrounds are most appealing. If you or your fishing club would like to send a donation to the Jersey Coast Anglers Association's, office for this worthwhile youth fishing program. Husky Brook Pond Cleanup a Great Success

Fort Monmouth's Husky Brook Pond cleanup was attended by several organizations. People in the Fort Monmouth community worked during their lunch to help restore the beauty of Husky Brook Pond. The cleanup was in preparation of the 1997 Summer Youth Fishing Derby held at the pond. Over 75 volunteers participated in cleaning the area around the pond to insure a safe environment for children participating in the 1997 Summer Youth Fishing Derby. More than 200 children attending the Fort Monmouth Youth Services Center this summer will have a chance to experience cane pole fishing at Husky Brook Pond.

• Manasquan Fishing Club members have graciously volunteered to support upcoming Jersey Coast Anglers Association's Youth Education Committee events.

Aquatic Education Workshops

• Coastal Habitat Workshop April 29, 1997; Tuesday, 4:30-6:30 for New Jersey educators 6th-12th grade. Lesson plans that focus on the coastal zone. Contact Janice McDonnell (732) 932-6555 for a registration form. Forms must be received by April 25, 1997.

Pequest Cane Pole Fishing

Saturday, May 4, 1997 starting at 1:30 p.m.- Children ages 5-7 will learn about cane pole fishing. Children must be accompanied by a parent. Pequest Trout Hatchery & Natural Resource Education Center, 605 Pequest Rd., Oxford, NJ 07863-9748.

Children Go Fishing

Members of the Silverton Fishing Club are coordinating a party boat fishing trip for foster children. The Jersey Coast Anglers Association's Youth Education Committee, will support their efforts by providing materials and information from the "Hooked On Fishing Not Drugs" program.
