JCAA FLUKE TOURNAMENT MAY 24 REGISTER NOW
SPECIAL AWARD EVENT MAY 31 ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK
(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association - May 1997 Newspaper)
The 3rd Annual JERSEY COAST FLUKE TOURNAMENT may exceed $75,000 in prizes. Now established as the biggest saltwater tournament in New Jersey history, with registration expected to exceed 1000 boats, the Grand Prize is a fully-rigged 19-foot Cobia center console boat with a 115 h.p. Yamaha outboard, trailer and Garmin GPS unit. The rig is valued at over $25,000!
There will be 12 weigh-in stations stretching from Sandy Hook to Cape May and Delaware Bay. Each weigh-in station will be identified with a banner displayed from May 1 to May 24, the date of the tournament. Weigh-in stations will be equipped with entry forms and copies of rules with all details of the tournament.
The JERSEY COAST FLUKE TOURNAMENT is a new concept in fishing tournaments that has captured the imagination and participation of thousands of anglers from New Jersey and surrounding states. It features a unique format that combines outdoor family fishing fun with friendly competition and a prize structure that eliminates the problems associated with other large tournaments.
There will be individual winners at each weigh-in ports. First prize at each of the 10 ports is a check for $1,000. Second prize is a Penn rod and reel. Third prize, a Garmin GPS unit. Other port prizes include $100 worth of prizes if the winner is a JCAA member, $500 Special Award if the top fluke wins the New Jersey skillful angler award, and more.
If a fisherman is lucky enough to break the New Jersey State Record, he will get a new 1997 Chevrolet truck from Surf Chevrolet in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.
With such a wide field of competing boats, it's nice to know that all the boats are not competing against each other for the ten $1,000 port prizes. The unique tournament format allows boats to compete against only boats pre-registered for the tournament for that port. For all practical purposes, this tournament is designed to alleviate any concern about the location of the larger fish and allows each boat to fish and compete in his own backyard.
The Grand Prize Yamaha-powered 19-foot Cobia boat with trailer, however, will be awarded by random drawing at an awards ceremony the following weekend on Saturday, May 31, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Bathing Pavilion at Island Beach State Park. Last year, the winning boat and its anglers took the Grand Prize and they didn't even catch a fluke!
For this year, the JCAA announces a new "Junior Division" for anglers under the age if 14. The names of the young anglers must be included on your entry registration form prior to fishing. First Prize in the Junior Division is a $1,000 Scholarship Drawing. Second Prize, for the biggest Fluke, is an 8 1/2-foot Quicksilver Inflatable Boat from Hobby Lobby Marine in Toms River. Third Prize is an Orvis fly fishing set. There will also be special Junior Division Port Prizesgift certificates for $100 of Edy's Ice Cream.
