Sponsor Profile

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association February 1994 Newsletter)

The Meyers family has been a fixture in the sport fishing community  of New Jersey for three generations.  Jack Meyers, owner of L & H Plumbing Supply, is chairman of the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council, while son John presently runs both the plumbing supply business and their new venture, L & H Boats, Inc.

Few anglers who fish Manasquan Inlet area and the canyons, wrecks and bottom structure reached from this port, have not seen one of the succession of Meyer's boats carrying the L & H logo across the stern. From their original 31 Bertram launched in 1969 through the 62 Garlington they run today, this is one of the preeminent sport fishing families at the Jersey shore.

Both Jack and John understand the necessity of a strong voice for the recreational fishing community and that's why they are Corporate Sponsors of JCAA and active in fisheries management and conservation.  "If the powers that be can only understand the dollars that are spent on recreational fishing in the United States, their decisions would be very different from what they are today," regaled John in a recent phone conversation.  "Many commercial fishermen are subsidized by the government, like our local commercial clammers who benefit from relay stations and state programs paid for by recreational clammer's license fees, but they fight like hell when the average person wants the freedom to catch a few clams on Sunday!  It just doesn't make any sense and it has to change."

The new  L & H Boat Company builds custom 33' open sport fishing boats designed using decades of personal fishing experience.  This well laid out day-boat has           V-berths, twin diesels, 300 gallons of fuel, live wells, jumbo fish boxes and 30 knot cruising speeds.  It has a base price of $150,000 and each one is built to the future owner's specifications.

"Big boats are costly to own and operate" stated John.  "The future of inshore and even offshore fishing is in smaller, more affordable fishing boats that have all the necessary equipment and features modern sport anglers require.  That was our goal in building these boats."

From this well known and highly regarded fishing family comes some last words of advise.  "Get involved!  Be an activist and support important groups like JCAA. if you have a business, become a sponsor  If your business depends even marginally on recreational fishing, you can't afford not to!  Recreational fishing is a multi-billion dollar industry and can no longer be allowed to take a back seat to commercial fishing interests."  L & H PLUMBING SUPPLY, INC. --  L & H BOATS, INC.  190 N.
