As the month of July is upon us. Hopefully warmer weather is heading our way. 2023 JCAA High Roller Raffle has been in full swing and will be drawn July 13th. This is one of the fundraisers that help JCAA do the things we do for the recreational fishing community. If you have not purchased a few raffles tickets, time is running out. You need to email and text me ASAP. Paul Haertel put a great prize list together. You can also call for tickets at 732-506-6565. Leave a message and clearly say your name and a number that you can be reached on, so arrangements can be made.
The 27th JCAA Annual Fluke Tournament was held on Saturday June 17th. The weather started out nicely but there were isolated showers in some areas and the wind gusts increased as the day went on for all. The fluke weighed this year across the regions was heavier than last year. The Awards Ceremony was held on Friday night June 23rd at the beautiful Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Who said lighting doesn’t twice and, in this case, it struck three times. For more details read the article and this newsletter about the JCAA Annual Fluke Tournament. Congratulations to all the winners and special thanks to all those that participated. A lot of people don’t really know what goes into it and all the hard work putting a tournament like this together. I would like to thank Paul Haertel, Don Marantz, Tom Fote, Phil Celmer Jr., Karen Noe, Paul Turi, John Toth for doing what that can to keep this tournament alive. We would like to see this tournament continue to grow in participants. If you have any ideas, please email me.
JCAA Sportsperson of the Year Dinner will be held on November 11th, and it will be here before you know. Clubs should start talking about it now for two great reasons. First, if the club have anyone that would like to nominate for this outstanding award. The club will need to submit a 250–300 word summary of why this person deserves it and why other clubs should vote for that person over all other nominees. Those nominees’ summaries need to be submitted by email to Tom Fote (tfote@jcaa.org), Paul Haertel (anglerpmh@aol.com) and copy me (mtsport64@aol.com). The summary of nominees will be posted in the newsletter if you get it in before the newsletter publishing deadline date. Second, the club should be talking about taking a table at this outstanding event. Everyone that attended it last year spoke very highly of the food and the overall event. If a club purchases a table, it is only $800 for a table of 10 which is only $80 a person, that’s a $10 savings. Who doesn’t like to save money. The regular price of a ticket is $90 per individual, which is a great price for what you get. As President, I will be calling for a vote by the Club Representatives at the September JCAA Meeting who they would like to receive this prestigious award. The votes will be tallied, and the recipient will be selected for JCAA Sportsperson of the Year. JCAA also has a Youth Education Award that is honored that night also. Submit those nominees’ summary to Greg Kucharewski at gkucharews@aol.com.
Remember there are no July or August Meetings scheduled, but if an important topic or issue arises an email will be sent out to club representatives.
I would like to see more energy driven individuals getting involved in JCAA. If you are one of those people or would like to get involved with JCAA time is now. You can start by being involved with one of our committees or becoming an officer, let me know. I will answer all your questions and help you with every level of involvement. Contact me by calling 732-245-9445 or emailing mtsport64@aol.com.
We all need to get involved and unite so the future of recreational fishing as we know it will be gone.
