Many thanks to Don Marantz and John Toth for representing JCAA and attending the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee hearing on June 7, 2012. New Jersey Outdoor Alliance and others did an outstanding job by making the HOFNOD bill a priority for 2012. We all know how important this bill is to have our youngsters learn healthy outdoor activities as an alternative to drugs and alcohol.
There was some opposition at the hearing, but HOFNOD Bill 638 was approved by unanimous vote by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. We are looking forward to the full senate passing A638 and the Governor’s signature.
The JCAA Youth Education Committee presented a HOFNOD activities program for ARC students during National Fishing and Boating Week. Children and young adults learned about Japanese fish printing (G yotaku) and the “Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs” program. Information about New Jersey disabled access fishing locations was distributed and attendees received HOFNOD decals and fishing booklets.
For more information about promoting the “Hooked on Fishing Not On Drugs” program at your school, please phone 732-785-9278 or email gkucharews@aol.com and place HOFNOD in the subject line.
