SAFE BOATING FOR NFBW
During National Fishing and Boating Week, members of the JCAA Youth Education Committee and NJ Chapter 12 Vietnam Veterans presented a fishing fun day for children at the Fort Monmouth School Age Services building. Children learned about “Passport To Fishing and Boating Program” Fish Identification Flash Cards, Boat Safety, “Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs” and a variety of tackle demonstrations. A special fishing program was presented for disadvantaged teens from Ocean and Monmouth counties. All fishing programs featured during National Fishing and Boating Week included boat safety and how to take advantage of the many fishing and boating opportunities in Monmouth and Ocean County. Over 350 children and their families received goodie bags for NFBW supplied by the Jersey Coast Anglers Association.
Military Families And Their Children
Due to parental military obligations, many youngsters travel throughout the country and some were born in foreign countries. On July 15, 2005 the JCAA Youth Education Committee will present a program to teach military families and their children about fishing and boating. The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, Chenega Technology Services Corporation, Army Community Service, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 12, others and US Army Garrison will support the event at Fort Monmouth, NJ. Military families will have the opportunity to learn about the different species of warm water fish that will be stocked at Huskey Brook Pond. Representatives from the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife will demonstrate fish handling and catch and release methods. Children attending the School Age Services program and enrolled in the 2005 Summer Fishing program will have a chance to catch their first fish. Hopefully, many children fishing for the first time will experience the thrill of a fish tugging at the end of their line. The JCAA Youth Education Committee has sponsored this program for seven years and it grows every year. Two youth volunteers from the Army Community Service program will assist with the summer long fishing derby.
