11th Annual JCAA Fluke Tournament Awards Cermony

by Tom Fote

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association July 2005 Newsletter)

It was a great night at the 11th Annual JCAA Fluke Tournament Awards Ceremony. On Friday, June 17th, the Grand Cayman Ballroom at Trump’s Marina was filled with anglers enjoying a good time. Stacey Dunn the representative from our new port sponsor, Maui Jim Sunglasses, could not believe the excitement and how many people were trying to get into the ballroom to see the show. Some anglers were there to pick up one of the 120 Port Prizes that they had won the previous Saturday and to celebrate their expertise in catching those prize winning fish. But all of us were there to see if we could win one of those over 100 door prizes worth more than $10,000!  And, more importantly, to see if we could win the last door prize, an 18-foot Century Boat with 115 Yamaha 4 Stroke engine sitting on a LoadRite trailer, a package worth over $31,000. By 9:15 all the over door prizes were given out and the port winners had all received their recognition.  Now the moment had arrived for John Ranker, representing Century and Yamaha, to draw the winning ticket for the boat. John pulled the ticket.  Ernie Berg was there representing his boat which was entered into the tournament by Glen Knudsen.  Like all of us, he was waiting to hear the magic number. When his number was called I could hear him from the back of the room yelling that they had won the boat. True to tradition, their boat had not weighed in a qualifying fish for a port prize. The tradition I envisioned was still intact.  For 11 years the winners of the grand prize have not weighed in a fish that won a port prize.

JCAA would like to thank Trump Marina Hotel Casino for hosting the event and supplying most of the money for the 1st place prize.  We also would like to thank Century and Yamaha for supplying the boat and motor respectively that makes this tournament one of the largest one-day tournaments.  JCAA would also like to thank all the other major sponsors who donated the port prizes.  Their names and the prizes they donated are listed below.  There were many manufactures that donated door prizes and they will be listed on our web page.  If you missed the tournament this year, mark you calendar for the 12th Annual JCAA Fluke Tournament in 2006.
