We need your help!
If you do not plan to fish in this tournament, we need your help! We need owners of 4-wheel drive vehicles to volunteer as beach judges. As a judge, you will measure the fish caught by tournament contestants. Judges are vital to the smooth operation and success of this tournament. To volunteer as a judge, please contact: Bob DeLeonard at 732-793-8080. All judges must be at the Park office meeting room at 5 AM to receive instructions and judges pack. Each judge receiving a pack will receive a free tournament “Judge” hat and will be part of a drawing for some special prizes.
Registration Fees:
Ages 18 & over - $15.00 on Tournament Day)
$5.00 – Ages 13-17
Children 12 & under are FREE!
Same day registration will begin at 5:00 am at Pavilion #1. Participating anglers will fish from Island Beach State Park surf and inlet jetty from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
Special arrangements are made for handicapped anglers. Balloon tire equipped beach wheelchairs are available for anglers with disabilities. Volunteers will be needed to assist anglers with special needs who fish on tournament day. To volunteer, or to make arrangements for a handicapped angler, please contact Greg Kucharewski at 732-840-9197.
Tournament hats and t-shirts will be on sale in the Pavilion on Tournament day! There will be a limited number of these special items from Canyon Gear. The t-shirts and hats will have a special Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament design. Don’t forget to stop at the Pavilion after fishing to get your hat and shirt!
Various sporting organizations, state agencies and Tournament supporters will have exhibits at the Pavilion throughout the tournament day.
The NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife will conduct a surf-fishing seminar for women on Saturday, October 2. This “Becoming an Outdoors Woman” program will take place in conjunction with the Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament. BOW participants who fish in the Tournament will have a chance to compete for a special award for the largest fish among their group.

JCAA is conducting a survey of the anglers that participate in the Governor’s tournament the same way we did for the JCAA Fluke tournament. The survey forms will be distributed at the Gate as you come into Island Beach State Park or at the registration area. There will be a special prize for just filling out the survey. This information is valuable to us in protecting your right to fish so Please cooperate and fill out the form and return them to Judges or the registration area
