President's Editorialby Bruce Smith (from Jersey Coast Anglers Association April 2005 Newsletter) JCAA Striped Bass Petition Circulating The JCAA, in early February, started collecting signatures on a petition that solicits support to change the striped bass regulations to two fish at 28 inches or over. The petition was introduced at the Atlantic City Boat Show where 412 signatures were obtained. Since then, many JCAA club members have signed the petition at monthly meetings. Petitions should be brought to the monthly general meeting by club delegates or mailed to the JCAA office. Additionally, the petition has been available at bait and tackle shops and flea markets. I applaud the efforts of the HIMAR Striper Club and the Asbury Park Fishing Club in obtaining hundreds of signatures at their recent flea markets. The favorable response to the JCAA petition validates the position that we have steadily maintained through out this process. By the time this issue of the JCAA Newspaper is printed a new RFA survey will probably be circulated. This survey will reportedly ask one question: Do you prefer status quo (One fish 24 to under 28 inches and one fish over 34 inches) or two fish 28 inches or larger? This is what the JCAA delegation advised the RFA was appropriate in mid-Dec. 2004. Thanks to all individuals and clubs that have already responded with their 2005 dues payment. Thanks to all who have purchased High Roller Raffle tickets. Remember, the drawing date is April 26th (April general meeting) so return your ticket stubs with your payments in a timely fashion. Obviously, there is still time to participate. If you need tickets, contact the JCAA office. Raffle tickets were mailed to clubs and to associates and previous tournament participants with Fluke Tournament Entry Forms, and Shirt and Hat Order Forms. Assemblyman Sean T. Kean’s bill, A-3790, is now bipartisan with two co-sponsors. We are hopeful that a senator will introduce a similar bill. The JCAA is mailing letters to all legislators to encourage support for changing the regulation to two striped bass at 28 inches or larger.
