PLENTY OF FAMILY FISHING FUN

The Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament will be held Sunday, October 1, 2000 at Island Beach State Park, New Jersey.  Don’t miss it! This fun event is the largest surf fishing tournament along the East Coast.  The J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee will coordinate fishing and aquatic education programs for children and their families during the surf fishing tournament.  Featured programs will include: “Fishing Line Hunt” by The Fisherman magazine, “Orange Ruffy Youth Casting” by the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee, “Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs” by New Jersey Beach Buggy, “Distance Casting” by the Shore Surf Club, “Becoming an Outdoors Woman” by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, along with a variety of informational booths that support the Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament.  Several veteran anglers will be available to help answer questions and demonstrate surf fishing tackle tricks.  If you are disabled and would like to fish the tournament please phone 732-840-9197 or 732-785-9278 to reserve a beach wheel chair and rod/reel.

 YOUTH EDUCATION SUPPORT

During the month of June, July and August we supplied information and materials to the following fishing clubs and organizations; South Jersey Tuna Club, New Jersey Beach Buggy Association, Manasquan Fishing Club, Shore Surf Club, Saltwater Anglers of Bergen County and the Hudson River Fishing Club “Hooked On the Hudson”, Fort Monmouth School Age Services, Association of Retarded Citizens Hersh High School, Monmouth County Youth Services, Ocean County PIC, and New Jersey Federation of Sportsmen Clubs.   We also received a generous donation of used fishing equipment that was donated by Larry S.  The used fishing equipment was refurbished by members of the Shore Surf Club and distributed to disadvantaged youth in Monmouth County.  Interest in youth fishing programs within the membership of JCAA is growing.  If you would like to help with our youth education efforts and offer some of your time to teach children the joy of fishing please phone 732-785-9278 or e-mail Gkucharews@aol.com.
