PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Time is running out on your
opportunity to pick the Sportsperson of the Year Award. We need people to submit a
name and a reason why they should be selected. It will be brought up at our next
meeting and voted on at the October meeting, so we can present it at the Awards Dinner on
November 12, 2000. We had some names submitted already.
Reminder that the 9th
Annual Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament is coming up on Oct 1, 2000. This
event is held at Island Beach State Park, so come out and support the sportsmen. Bring
your families and enjoy the day and learn more of what the state has to offer. Some of the
funds from this tournament go to educating people of the importance of a healthy
environment.
As you all must have heard or
read about, that bear hunt was postponed at the request of our Governor. This is bad news
for all sportsmen in the state of New Jersey; the Fish and Game Council made a political
decision not a manageable one. We as sportsmen of this state dropped the ball on this one.
We should learn a lesson that a few people cannot do all the work. We need to unite and
become stronger on all sportsmen issues. We all need to be more aware of what is happening
all the time. This is one issue that we may have let slip through our fingers this year,
but what will be next? We all need to make the calls, write the letters and do send
the faxes if you want a say in the process. Call the people that vote on your side and say
thank you. Let the people that go the other way know that they voted wrong and why. Lets
all get on the ball from now on.
It is time to start deciding if
you are interested in becoming an officer for Jersey Coast Anglers Association. We are
looking for dedicated people to fill in positions for the next year. If you are interested
please give me a call.
