PRESIDENT’S REPORT

By Mark Taylor

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association December 1999 Newsletter)

This is the Jersey Coast Anglers Association’s December Newsletter, which means an end of another year of fighting for the resource. I have learned a lot since I was elected last December to the position of President of the JCAA. We need more people who love to use the resource to volunteer for different tasks that need to be done throughout the year. Without more people helping take the load off the shoulders of those volunteers that are spreading themselves so thin, every issue can’t be addressed properly. We need for our member clubs to make sure their club representatives are attending the JCAA monthly meetings. We need a new Striped Bass Committee Chairman. If you are interested please contact the JCAA office at 732-506-6565.

As you all know we had the Awards Dinner on November 14 at Crystal Point Yacht Club for Sportsperson of the Year. We honored all past recipients and this year’s recipient, which is Penn Fishing Tackle Mfg. Company. Everyone who attended this event greatly enjoyed himself or herself. I would like to give thumbs up to the two people that coordinated everything -  Al and Don Marantz. I would like to give a special thanks to Gary Caputi for being the Master of Ceremonies at the dinner. I would also like to thank New Jersey Senate President, Donald DiFrancesco for taking time out of his busy schedule to be our keynote speaker.

It is that time of the year when we have to start thinking of the year to come. We will be asking for nominations for officers of JCAA at the November meeting. They will be voted on at the December meeting and take office as of January 1, 2000. Anyone interested in filling a position please contact the JCAA office if you can’t attend the November meeting. We also need people to chair a few openings in some of our Committees.

With the weather getting colder, most people are going into that winter mode. People start thinking of those boat shows for maybe a new boat or new equipment for next season or those Fishing Seminars for new tips that can help them enhance their enjoyment of the resource. We will have a booth at the following events and need help in staffing the booths at these functions:

Saltwater Sportsman Magazine Seminar
January 8, 2000
Resorts in Atlantic City

Raritan Center Sportsmen’s Show
January 13-16, 2000
Raritan Center Expo. Hall in Edison

Atlantic City Show
April 6-10, 2000
Atlantic City Convention Center
