SEA GRANT AGENT WORKS WITH KIDS

Another successful youth fishing seminar was held at the Outdoors Sportsmen Exposition on Sunday, 10 January 1999 thanks to the creative teaching abilities of Dr. Eleanor Bochenek. Sometimes educators must adapt to creative learning environments and significant age differences while conducting youth fishing seminars. This was the teaching challenge as Raritan Center’s, Salon-A began to fill with a variety of children and young adults that wanted to learn about "Fishing Fun For Kids". Participants ages varied from 2 1/2 years old to 17 years old. The Jersey Coast Anglers Association’s model youth fishing program was designed to teach children from 6 years old to 14 years old was quickly reinvented to hold the interest of youngsters and adults by Dr. Eleanor Bochenek. "It was learn as you go" Dr. Bochenek said, as she lowered herself to the ground to teach children about the feeding behaviors of Summer Flounder.

Upon completion of the seminar several parents and other guest speakers congratulated Dr. Eleanor Bochenek and the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee for such an informative youth fishing presentation. On behalf of the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee, I would like to thank Dr. Bochenek for her exceptional teaching talents and support throughout 1998.
