SUMMER FISHING

The J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee supported several youth fishing events this summer. Fishing equipment that the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee received from a grant was borrowed by the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Youth Services Organizations and Ocean/Monmouth/Essex County Educational programs. The equipment was in need of repair because of continual use and members of the Shore Surf Club were kind enough to mend rod guides and fix broken fishing reels.

YOUTH FISHING DERBY

The Fort Monmouth Youth Service Center in conjunction with the Jersey Coast Anglers Association sponsored a summer youth fishing program that captured the attention of many young anglers in Monmouth County this summer. Children in Monmouth County entered the Youth Fishing Derby and the "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" program for July and August 1998. As part of the drug awareness program children pledged to use fishing as an alternative to drugs and alcohol. "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" support material was purchased from the Future Fisherman Foundation by the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee and distributed to all contestants when they registered.
