FORT MONMOUTH LATCH KEY STUDENTS LEARN THE JOYS OF FISHING

A summer youth fishing program for approximately 100 children at the Fort Monmouth Latch Key Center are learning the joys of fishing through the instruction of the J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee and the New Jersey Division of Fish, Game & Wildlife. State representatives have supported the Fort Monmouth Latch Key youth fishing program from the start and have supplied equipment along with technical expertise. Children attending the summer Pathway To Fishing learning stations and the "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" program will receive special promotions from the local business community, when they show their "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" pledge card. The youth program has excited several agencies at Fort Monmouth and their involvement has produced a model summer youth fishing program. ( See news article reprinted in this newsletter .)

1995 Governor's Cup - Help Needed!!!

The J.C.A.A. Youth Education Committee, will be helping novice anglers at the Governor's Third Annual Surf Fishing Tournament, Sunday, October 1, 1995. This will require extra help from member clubs in the J.C.A.A.. If members in your fishing club would like to help others learn the joy of surf fishing, please phone the J.C.A.A. office, or show up at the J.C.A.A. booth at the Governor's Cup. Help will be needed to provide assistance for disabled anglers, youth anglers, and novice anglers. Towns along the coast have already volunteered the use of their handicap access beach chairs for disabled anglers to use during the Governor's Fourth Annual Surf Fishing Tournament. This is a fun day, so come out and share your surf fishing expertise and help cast a line of caring. To reserve a surf fishing beach chair for the Governor's Cup please phone Greg Kucharewski, 908/899-8874 (leave message & phone #).

Dr. Eleanor Bochenek, Marine Agent for New Jersey Sea Grant and the Jersey Coast Anglers Youth Education Committee will develop a saltwater resource fishing guide to complement the existing freshwater Pathway To Fishing program. The saltwater fishing guide will be part of a project to teach students how to fish for saltwater species of fin fish and protect our aquatic environment offshore. More information about this project will be featured in the J.C.A.A. September newsletter.
