(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association April 1995 Newsletter)
Bob "Dusty" Rhodes and Gary Dickerson have been nominated for two vacant seats on the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (MAFMC).
Gary Dickerson is a past president of JCAA and is currently the Chairman of the JCAA Fluke (summer flounder) Committee. Gary has been an advisor on fluke to the MAFMC for several years.
Dusty Rhodes presently serves on the JCAA Striped Bass Committee, as New Jerseys recreational bluefish advisor to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and as Chairman of the ASMFC Bluefish Advisory Panel. He is also in the forefront of fishery management issues in his capacity as Conservation Editor of The Fisherman Magazine.
Both nominees have shown the ability and willingness to work first for the health of the fisheries resource and then for the fair allocation of this resource between the user groups. They have the knowledge, interest, and time to serve as productive and fair members of the Council.
The member delegates voted, at the March Regular Meeting of the JCAA, to fully support both Dusty Rhodes and Gary Dickerson for seats on the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council.
The JCAA is asking its members and friends to support these nominations by writing to Senators Bradley and Lautenberg. A letter to Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown and President Clinton would also be helpful to obtain these seats for both men.
Capt. Dave Preble has been nominated to fill a seat in the New England Fisheries Management Council. Dave Preble has shown a great understanding for the problems that exist in the fisheries of the North East and is the type of person needed to make decisions in favor of the fishery resource instead of some of the self serving user groups. Those readers in the New England area served by this council should contact the U.S. Senators from their states to support Capt. Preble.
