The JCAA Aquatic Education and Youth Fishing Programs are receiving interest from several community organizations and civic groups.  Information and material from the JCAA Informational Library was made available to the following organizations since January 1994:  New Jersey Beach Buggy Association,  Manasquan Fishing Club,  Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts,  New Jersey Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife,  American Littoral Society Baykeeper,  Fish 'n' Kids, Inc.,  Fay Head Shores Fishing Club,  Jersey Shore Council Boy Scouts of America,  Animation & Scale Modeling Club,

Southern Regional High School,  Trout Unlimited,  Concerned Anglers Sticking together,  McGalliard Elementary School P.T.A.,  Hamilton Township D.A.R.E.,  Lakewood School System, Red's Surf Devils,  Newark Bait & Fly Casting Club,  Hudson River Foundation,  Seaside Heights Police Department,  N.J. Wildlife Conservation Corps.,  Sports Authority.

"Bring a Friend Fishing" is the theme of National Fishing Week,  June      .  The JCAA Youth Education Committee will cast a line of caring to other clubs and organizations seeking to promote aquatic education and youth programs.  If your club or organization is conducting a program for children and wishes to borrow support material from the JCAA library, please call 908-506-6565 and leave a message in the Youth Education box of the answering system.  We will return your call and assist with your youth program.

The Manhattan Sailing School has requested assistance from the JCAA Youth Education Committee to help organize a youth fishing program for their "Project City Kids".  This  program will take place at the their facility in New York and will involve working with disadvantaged children.  This project falls in line with our new program, "KIDS WISH'N TO GO FISH'N" , that will focus on urban students who are interested in fishing.

Today, many students are seeking job opportunities and the business sector catering to outdoor recreation, including fishing, employs many people with various skills.  Aquatic education and recreational fishing programs, that are made available to schools, will encourage disadvantaged students to work toward goals that are within their academic range and provide hope for their future.

Marie Frolio, JCAA Aquatic education coordinator, will attend the Coastal Workshop for Teachers at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, NJ on May 20-22.  Topics for the weekend workshop include: principles of wildlife management, marine resources and their importance to people, wetlands and wildlife, Delaware bay migration and the beasts of the barrier islands.

The JCAA's model  Youth Fishing Tackle Box & Activity Bag is growing.  Major manufacturers have supported our efforts to provide items that will promote healthy outdoor activities for fishing families.

Please contact the JCAA Youth Education Committee if your club has members willing to volunteer some time to the JCAA youth education and fishing program effort.
