Play Hook-e Take a Veteran Fishing

On Sunday, April 29, 2018, 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. the Jersey Coast Anglers Association, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 12 and Cardinale Enterprises will host the second annual Play HOOK-e Take a Disabled Veteran Fishing at the Ponderosa Estate Farm, Lake Julianna Millstone Township, NJ.

Disabled veterans and their guest are invited to fish at a private lake to catch and release big fish and then join Mr. Vito Cardinale, Cardinale Enterprises and his staff of volunteers that will provide soft drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixin's. Veterans with mobility challenges will have the use of 4x4 transportation around the lake, along with fishing assistance if needed. Freshwater fishing license is not need because this is a private lake.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Jersey Shore Chapter will provide fly fishing instruction and their members are also welcome to join in and catch some big fish on a fly rod. To register, please phone 732-785-9278 or email gkucharews@jcaa.org.

NJ HOFNOD 2018 Instructor Training

The next NJ HOFNOD instructor training workshop will take place at Lighthouse Center Natural Resource Education in Waretown, NJ on April 27-29, 2018.

Below is a map of thirty NJ HOFNOD teams as of 2018 and growing. As you can see NJ HOFNOD is actively growing. We expect to see another team listed for Ocean County after the training in April.

Two members from HRFA received their NJ HOFNOD certification.

Brick High Schools NJ HOFNOD program is set to begin September 2018. Tim Brennan, Physical Education Instructor, is organizing educators within both high schools. Tim created a wish list of equipment if you have any of the following items and would like to donate towards the Brick High School NJ HOFNOD program. 10 ft surf rods/ reel combo, 7-7.5 plugging rods/reel combo, 6 ft casting rods/reel combo for the river/canal, 6 ft bottom fishing rods/reel combo, freshwater rods/reel combo, fly fishing/reel combo, fly-fishing Flies, seining nets, cast nets (small/med/large), large/long nets for canal and inlet, gaffs for the canal and Inlet, 5 gallon buckets, fishing waders (multiple sizes), 10-50lb braided line, 20-50lb leader line, 10-15lb leader line, 165qt, 9qt, 60qt coolers, freshwater bobbers, hooks, swivels including 3 way swivel, clips, tactical angler clips, fishing plugs/swimmers/shads/bucktails, bait knives, fillet knife & knife sharpener, minnow traplive bait keeper, battery powered aerator pump, gulp!, swimming mullet in all sizes, crabbing basket/crabbing cage/crabbing net, tape measure (stickers and tape), 1-12oz lead weights, PVC sand spikes, pliers/braid cutting pliers, tackle boxes/bags, first aid kits.

Newark Bait and Fly Casting Clubkids Fishing Derby

NB&FCC annual Kids Fishing Derby is held each year at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside, N. J. and is free for children 16 years of age and younger. Adults may enter for a nominal charge. The Derby runs for three weeks April 14 – May 5, 2018.

The registration booth is located at the gazebo on the lower lake and registrations will be accepted from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on the first Saturday of the derby only. Children that have registered will receive a gift bag at the derby location up until 2:00 P.M. on first Saturday of the derby. Prizes for the derby will be awarded at the Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club's meeting on June 6, 2017 at 7:00 P.M.

Annual Trout Contest for Kids

The Shark River Surf Anglers are proud to announce the 2018 edition of the annual Trout Contest for Kids at Spring Lake, NJ. This year’s contest is scheduled for Saturday April 7th from 8 AM to 1:30 PM and it is offered FREE of charge to all children ages 15 and under. Great prizes will be a huge part of the day, as we award a sensational Grand Prize to an overall winner, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes to individual winners in each of four different age categories. Don’t miss this contest, every contestant will go home a winner, as the Shark River Anglers present ALL participants with a “thank you” prize package that contains about $40 worth of goods and gear! Hundreds of young anglers are expected to circle around Spring Lake waiting for the start of the contest. Don’t forget to get there early, otherwise you must park along the side streets of Spring Lake and walk a great distance to find a spot to fish. Every year, the Shark River Surf Anglers spend a lot of time and energy to make this event a success. Come out and enjoy some fishing fun, catch big fish, and win prizes. Hooked on the Hudson

The Palisades Interstate Park New Jersey and the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association will host the 32nd Annual Hooked on the Hudson. This is a great time for kids at Ross Dock on Saturday, April 28, 2018 9 am--3:00 pm and the fishing contest is FREE.

Just come down to the park, throw your line in the water and enjoy yourself. HRFA will supply all equipment and bait Free for your children to use! They continue the tradition of combining a fishing contest with exhibits provided by leading environmental conservation and sportsmen’s organizations in our area. Food and Refreshments will be available. Fishing Contest hours are 9:00am - 1:00 pm. Fishing information and assistance will be available. Exhibits start at 9:00 am-3:00 pm.
