President's Report

by John Toth
(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association February 2018 Newsletter)

My two-year term as JCAA’s president is coming to a close and it was a very busy two- year term for me! JCAA’s By-Laws limits the president’s term to only two years – what a good By-Law! But seriously, the JCAA is involved in so many issues and I was glad to be a part of them and will continue to be involved in JCAA’s future.

At this time, I want to THANK all of JCAA’s Board members for supporting me through my presidency! Without dedicated board members, this organization would not be able to function effectively. The work they do is noticed and sometimes not noticed, but they contribute to the success of our organization in so many ways. Let me give you some examples and these are only quick snapshots of what they do.

Bill Browne – stuffs hundreds of mailers in our office and newsletters for distribution to members. Bill also volunteers his time to work at the many shows we are involved in like the upcoming Atlantic City Boat show, our Fluke Tournament Awards ceremony and other functions.

Don Marantz – like Bill Browne, he volunteers his time to do our newsletter mailings, work at our shows and manage our 50/50 fundraiser. Don also is very involved in getting more youths involved in fishing and also introducing paralyzed veterans to fishing.

Greg Kucharewski – Greg has been in the forefront of bringing youths to the joy of fishing for many years! He is also involved in helping disabled veterans to enjoy fishing.

Ken Warchal – Ken was our Recording Secretary and did a great job in recording the minutes of our meetings. Ken is also very involved in sand mining issues, especially in protecting the Manasquan Reef, a prime fishing location.

Paul Turi – Paul is our Office Manager and he keeps tabs on all of our JCAA business functions and is crucial to keeping our annual fluke tournament on track, is the editor of our monthly newspaper and runs the Sportsperson-of-the-Year dinner every year.

Paul Haertel – Paul goes to many management-type meetings and provides testimony on various issues – like the recent meeting on sea bass that was held on January 11th. Paul is also heavily involved in our fluke tournament and is chairing a beef dinner for the JCAA on February 10th. Please try to attend it – info in our newsletter.

Kyren Dooley – Membership Secretary – Kyren keeps track of our club memberships. (I held this position in the JCAA at one time and it is a detailed task and one that is time-consuming.

Paul Eidman – Paul is our eyes on environmental issues and he is heavily involved in saving bunker stocks and others like squid.

Mark Taylor – Incoming president and Mark handles our involvement with a number of shows that we do like the upcoming Salt Water Expo in March. Mark also is our Master of Ceremonies at our various functions, such as our recent JCAA Sportsperson of the Year Dinner.

Tom Fote – is our Legislative Chairman and does a lot of travelling to attend many fishing management-type meetings in Trenton, Washington, Virginia, Maryland and other locations where a JCAA presence is required. This demands a lot of his personal time and energy to attend many meetings that focus on a number of important issues that affect us anglers.

Frank Richetti – Frank is a big help in running our annual fluke tournament with organizing the status of the catches of all anglers at our various fishing ports.

Doug Tegeder – Doug does a tremendous job as our treasurer and keeps track of our bills and getting them paid, no easy task!

There are a number of people here that are not listed like Linda Haertel who works at our Awards Dinner by selling 50/50 tickets and helping us with our Christmas party.

I also want to THANK all of you for your support of the JCAA over many years with your kind words, contributions and inputs on the continuing fishing challenges we will face during this year and beyond.

Finally, I want you all to support our incoming president, Mark Taylor, who I know will do an outstanding job for the JCAA during his presidency!
