YOUTH EDUCATION SUPPORT

Many thanks, to the Hi-Mar Striper Club for supplying rods and reels for seven of the lucky participants who won prizes at the Fort Monmouth 2007 Summer Camp Youth Fishing Derby. The Hi-Mar is also involved with the group Father Time run by Jeff Johnson in Keansburg. When Jeff asked for help with his first beach fishing tournament last year, Hi-Mar members showed up at the beach to help get the ball rolling and the club also donated rigs to be handed out to participants. This year the Hi-Mar also joined Father Time at their outdoor expo by setting up a table and having club members available to discuss fishing with the families attending. Again, when Jeff asked if we could help with the tournaments this year, I personally went to the beach and helped with the onsite setup and made sure the club donated $100 worth of fishing rigs to be handed out to participants. The Hi-Mar also has an additional $100 set aside to purchase rigs for the Father Time Fall Tournament. This year (2007) The Hi-Mar, through Youth Trip Chairman Mike McLean, sponsored five trips during the summer. Four of these trips were on the Charter Boat Captain Dave out of Atlantic Highlands Marina. While the membership of the Hi-Mar Striper Fishing Club works very hard to live up to our purpose, promoting sport fishing education regarding fishing, and protecting our saltwater resources, they also work especially hard to live up to educating and involving our youth. The membership of the Hi-Mar Striper Club is right on track in promoting youth fishing.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

The JCAA Youth Education Committee is helping novice anglers at the Governor's 16th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament, Sunday, October 7, 2007. This will require extra volunteer hours from member clubs in JCAA. If members in your fishing club would like to help others learn the joy of surf fishing, please phone 732-785-9278 or e-mail gkucharews@aol.com and place IBSP in the subject line. Help is needed to provide assistance for disabled anglers, youth anglers, and novice anglers. This is a fun day. Come out and share your surf fishing expertise and help cast a line of caring.

DISABLED ANGLERS

Disabled anglers that need assistance fishing will have an opportunity to fish the Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament in a specially marked area and balloon tire equipped beach wheelchairs are available for disabled anglers. Volunteers will be on hand to assist any angler with special needs who want to fish on tournament day. For more information about disabled access and surf fishing beach chair reservations, please phone Greg Kucharewski 732-785-9278 (leave message & phone #).
