Ballot Question # 2

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association November 2006 Newsletter)

The Outdoor Recreational Alliance funding initiative for fiscal year 2007 for the divisions of Fish and Wildlife and Parks and Forestry is gathering momentum

The Outdoor Recreation Alliance (ORA) now represents over 55 environmental organizations, sportsmen’s groups, affordable housing advocates and environmental justice advocates working to secure a long-term stable source of funding for capital projects and operation, maintenance, stewardship and acquisition of New Jersey’s state and local parks and natural heritage conservation.

There will be a Public Question (Question #2) on the November 7, 2006 General Election Ballot. The purpose of this referendum is to create a stable source of funding for improvements and facilities for recreation and conservation purposes, etc.  This does not create new taxes but uses existing funds. You can View the Notice of Public Question and the Interpretative Statement on the ORA website. (njsos.org)

You will be seeing and hearing a lot about this in the next few weeks. One of the objectives of ORA is to obtain increased appropriations for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Divisions of Fish and Wildlife and Parks and Forestry and the Office of Natural Resources Restoration in the state budget.
