A2634 – Sponsor : Assy. Anthony Chiappone, Dist. #31, Hudson
Synopsis – A 2452 and A2634 would prohibit black bear hunting for varying periods of time ( 18 months, 5 years etc) , and would politicize New Jersey Black Bear management under the absolute control of DEP Commissioner Bradley Campbell
A2452 and 2634 are bear hunt moratorium bills being promoted by DEP Commissioner Bradley Campbell, the anti-hunting, animal rights organizations, and their legislators in the NJ Assembly (Gusciora, Chiappone et. al.) . These bills are really more about taking the authority to establish and regulate hunting seasons away from the Fish and Game Council than they are about bear hunting. They would politicize the management of black bears and remove the right of public comment on hunting regulations, which is now guaranteed under the annual Fish & Game Code protocol conducted by the Council.
