(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association November 2004 Newsletter)
October 4th 2004
All New Jersey sportsmen should be advised that the animal rights, anti-hunting organizations, together with our adversaries in the present administration and in the New Jersey State Legislature, DEP Commissioner Brad Campbell, Assemblymen Reed Gusciora, Anthony Chiappone , et. al., have succeeded in having two anti Fish & Game Council, anti bear hunting bills, A2452 and A 2634, moved from the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee (AAN) to the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee (AEN). (See attached legislative alert prepared by the State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs related to A2452 and A2634).
The reason for this move is the lack of support for these bills which developed in (AAN) once the Committee was informed by sportsmen of the true facts regarding New Jersey’s northern bear population and the real purpose behind this legislation.
The movement of A2452 and A2634 to the AEN committee will mean a duplication of the effort to defeat this legislation which was conducted with AAN since the start of the 211th legislative session re A2452 and A2634. The results in the AAN committee were certainly successful and there is no reason we can’t obtain the same result in Assembly Environment.
All sportsmen are advised to review the attached alert regarding A2452 and A2634 and deliver the same message to the Administration, Comm. Campbell our local legislators and the AEN committee. Our full commitment to defeat these bills is essential to the continued management of New Jersey’s wildlife based upon science rather that politics.
