President's Report

Happy Holidays!  Thanksgiving is here and the holiday season is upon us.  The surf fishing is getting really good as the water temperature starts to cool.  The bait is pouring out of the inlets and the Bass and Blues are blitzing the beaches.  If you are a surf fisherman this is your time of year.  Get out there while the fish are there and the weather is still bearable.  The blackfish limit is up to eight fish a day as of November 15, so that fishery will start to pick up.

The Dinner Dance was a grand success.  Many thanks to all those who attended the dinner and a special thanks to those who organized it and made it successful.  It is a lot of hard work and Paul Turi, Ed Cherry, Dan Miller and Tom Fote deserve a huge amount of credit for their effort.  The prizes were great as were the speakers.  Greg Kucharewski, the “Sportsperson of theYear,” was a very deserving winner for all the Youth Education work he has done over a period of many years.  We know he will continue and if anyone would like to learn how they can incorporate a youth educational program into their school, club or other organization, Greg would we happy to talk to you and give you some ideas and a lot of material for you to expand the program.  Let’s get every kid “Hooked on Fishing not on Drugs.”  It was a wonderful evening with friends.

It’s time to think about the election of next year’s officers and the future of JCAA.  Are you interested in getting more involved and helping to shape the management of the fisheries in New Jersey?  Then give me a call at 732-477-8186 to discuss how you can help the JCAA grow in size and expand our influence.  The more people involved the less work for everyone and the more successful we will be in insuring that the environment becomes cleaner and cleaner and that the fishing in New Jersey continues to flourish.

The boat and sportsman show season will soon be upon us and the JCAA could use you as a volunteer to help man the booth.  If you would like to help us give Mark Taylor a call at 732-929-2591.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the workings of the JCAA and talk over fishery issues in depth with the JCAA leadership.

I wish everyone a happy holiday season.  Now get out there and catch some fish.  Keep what you can use and release the rest to help the species prosper
