Time is fast approaching for our annual Sportsperson-of-the-year Dinner/Dance. As usual, the event will be held at the beautiful Crystal Point Yacht Club, Rt. 70 and River Rd., Pt. Pleasant, NJ on Sunday, November 9th. This year we have added an hour to the event in the hope that we can get some dancing in this year. In the past we have run the event from 4:30-8:30 and seem to go right to the end with all the speeches and drawing of all the prizes. So, this year we are going from 4:00-9:00PM in the hope that we can at least get in an hour of dancing.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. William Hogarth, Assistant Administrator for Fisheries at NOAA. (See Dr. Hogarth’s bio at the end of this article).
If you wish to nominate anyone as sportsperson-of-the-year, please send in a short bio to our President, Tom Siciliano, before our next general membership meeting which will be held on October 28th.
We have three nominees for sportsperson of the year and nominations will be taken from the floor at the JCAA meeting on October 28th. The three nominations that have been received so far for the sportsperson-of-the-year award are

Again, please, we need gifts for our raffle prizes, Chinese and silent auctions. We especially need prizes for the ladies. Don’t forget, they come too. At least 40 percent in attendance are women. So, please, let’s not forget them. If you or your club has anything to donate, please contact me, Paul Turi, at (609) 597-3193 to make arrangements to get the item or items to me before the dinner/dance. If any bait & tackle shop, marina or boat dealer has anything to donate, give me a call and I will pick it up myself or make arrangements to have it picked up.
Tickets are the same price as last year, $60.00 per ticket or $500.00 for a table of 10. Many of our clubs buy a table of 10. Some of the clubs subsidize the cost of the tickets to their members. Some clubs pay for the whole table, others pay half and one club I know of pays $10.00 towards the ticket of each of their 10 members attending. I would urge other clubs to do the same for their members attending.
Dan Miller is handling ticket sales this year. So, if you need tickets, give Dan a call at (609) 641-7821.
