Dear Candidate:
The New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, the Jersey Coast Anglers Association, and their associated organizations, are requesting all candidates for statewide office in the 2003 election to participate in the following questionnaire regarding wildlife and environmental issues. Your cooperation, in indicating your position on the areas covered and by returning the questionnaire to the address provided no later than October 1, 2003, will be appreciated.
(1) Although New Jersey's marine resources generate over 5 Billion dollars annually for New Jersey's economy, their research and management have never been adequately funded. Would you be willing to author or support legislation to increase annual funding for the Division of Fish & Wildlife's marine fisheries management responsibilities by 2 million dollars?

(2) Would you oppose legislation such as S2603/A3764 which would remove the authority to promulgate hunting, fishing, and trapping regulations from the New Jersey Fish & Game Council?

(3) Would you support legislation - S1778/A2823, bills which are presently in committee in the Senate and Assembly, which would establish the Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs program statewide, and appropriate $200,000.00?

(4) Over the years the Public Advocate fought to maintain public access for all New Jersey citizens to fish, swim, dive, surf, and boat in New Jersey's public waters. Would you support the Governor's proposal to reinstate and fund the office of the Public Advocate?

(5) Would you support legislation which would allocate $250,000.00 of general fund monies to the Division of Fish & Wildlife for funding the Hunters Helping the Hungry-Venison donation program through the New Jersey Food Banks?

(6) Would you support legislation such as S2013/A3064 which would authorize the NJ Fish & Game Council to permit Sunday hunting for game animals?

(7) Are you in favor of having the Fish & Game Council establish a Black Bear hunting season in northwest New Jersey based upon sound scientific research and recommendations as presented by the NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife?

(8) No money has been made available to the Fisheries Information Development Council since its establishment three years ago with a first year appropriation of $500,000.00. There has been no funding the last two years and none of the cooperative research projects begun the first year have been continued. Would you be willing to author or support legislation to extend the funding for the Fisheries Information Development Council? Yes ( ) No ( )
(9) Would you support legislation (S735) that would dedicate $20 Million dollars annually for the development, improvement, and repair of State Parks, Forests, Recreation Areas, and Wildlife Management Areas?

(10) Would you support a State constitutional amendment that guarantees New Jersey residents the right to hunt, fish, and trap, subject only to reasonable regulations?
