Justice for All: Fighting for Healthy Communities and a Cleaner Environment
Hold the legislature accountable to a pro-environmental agenda in New Jersey’s 2003 election year.
Help shape and press the Administration to fulfill its commitment to “stop the sprawl” and environmental justice. Join the NJ Environmental Federation from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.
Learn new skills and facts and sharpen those you already possess. Together, we can protect natural resources, communities, and our health from environmental injustices.
The day features key note speakers Governor James E. McGreevey (confirmed) and nationally renowned environmental justice leader Dr. Robert Bullard (confirmed), who is the Director of the Environmental Justice Resource Center at Clark Atlanta University and author of 11 books on environmental justice, poverty and pollution, and social equity.
Workshops topics include: Drinking Water, Lobbying, Environmental Justice, Using DEP Data to your Advantage, Brownfields, Healthy Schools, Sprawl, and Using the Media to your Advantage.
NJEF will be rewarding the following activists for their dedication in fighting for community health and protecting the environment: Roxanne Shinn, who blew the whistle and halted efforts to destroy wetlands and degrade the Cooper River Watershed; Robert MacLay, who set up an Integrated Pest Management school committee to reduce pesticides in Montclair schools; Residents for a Better Community, for implementing a wellhead protection ordinance in Washington Township; and Citizens Opposed to the Power Plant, for stopping the flow of lead contaminated water in the Camden Schools.
The conference also includes breakfast snacks, lunch, and a reception following the conference. Registration is $30 per person, $25 for registering before March 7, $25 per person for groups of 5 or more, and $15 for students.
