President's Report

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association October 2002 Newsletter)

I hope all of you are enjoying the great weather we are having this summer, as well as the great run of bluefish we are having at the shore this year. It truly goes to show how handsomely rewarded we’ve been for the years of time and effort put forth in getting those reduction boats out of our state waters. I would like to express my gratitude once again to all those who aided in the great victory.

I am sorry to say, that as of this writing, there has not been any word of the results coming out the public hearings on the changes to the regulations governing striped bass and weakfish. We had tentatively scheduled a meeting for Tuesday night, august 27th, to have a vote from our member clubs on what position the JCAA will support. That meeting will probably be rescheduled for sometime in early September and I can only ask that all representatives apprise their clubs and be ready to vote as soon as we schedule the new date, which may have to be by telephone if we need to speed the process up. We will keep you abreast of any and all information as it comes in, or you can always check the website for any announcements.

Just a reminder that we will be taking nominations from the floor at the September regular monthly meeting for this year’s Sportsperson of the Year Award. Please be sure to have a paragraph or two outlining the qualifications and accomplishments of any person you choose to nominate. The vote will take place at the October monthly meeting, and the Dinner/Dance is scheduled for Sunday November 10th.

Speaking of the Dinner/Dance, I would like all of us to make a concerted effort to make this year’s event the best ever. Over the last couple of years we’ve averaged 135/140 people, yet the room we secure at Crystal Point will easily handle double that number. What may greatly aid us this year is the fact that Governor Jim McGreevy is tentatively slated to be the evening’s Key Note Speaker, but it is up to each and every member club to sell as many tickets as possible in order to show our new Governor the unity and strength of the recreational angler, plain and simple. We are also in need of door prizes and prizes for the silent and Chinese auctions, and each club will be contacted by this year’s chairman looking for your club’s support, so please help in anyway you can.

I know that this may be a bit premature, but we again have secured a booth at this year’s Atlantic City Boat Show which last year proved to be one of our major fund raisers.  The show is scheduled for Feb. 5th –10th. We will once again need the help of those lucky enough to be retired to help with the booth during the weekdays. Please be sure to mark on your calendar the dates mentioned, and if you can help out, please let us know. From the reports I have been getting, there will not be a Philadelphia Boat show this year which means that the turnout for the AC Show will probably be greater than last year.  So I think you get the point.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and stay well.
