(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association June 2001 Newsletter)
HOOKED ON OHIO
The Jersey Coast Anglers Associations Youth Education Director is invited to visit Toledo University from July 9-12, 2001 and support their first National Youth Sports Program NYSP, Youth Fishing Program. Toledo Universitys, National Youth Sports Program is ready to conduct their first summer fishing program. NYSP is a program that helps children build the skills and the confidence they need to tackle future challenges. The National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) provides summer recreational, sport, and educational enrichment programming for approximately 350 youth, aged 10 to 16. Toledo University Youth Summer Counselors received a $2,500.00 grant from the Ohio Division of Fish and Game to purchase learning materials and aquatic education field trips for youngsters participating in the NYSP Youth Fishing program. Our JCAA Youth Education Committee will provide guidance about the Future Fisherman Foundations Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs program and demonstrate a variety of angling techniques. Marine aquatic education will be discussed for children visiting coastal states during their summer vacation and we will explain the mission statement of the JCAA.
NEWARK BAIT AND FLYCASTING CLUB
On May 1, 2001, members of the Newark Bait and Flycasting Club hosted a youth fishing clinic at their monthly meeting. Twenty-eight children attended a fishing clinic at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, located in Union, NJ. Children and their families learned about saltwater and freshwater fishing techniques from veteran anglers that belong to the Newark Bait and Flycasting Club. The eventful evening offered plenty of refreshments, tackle goodie bags and prizes for all the participants. The Jersey Coast Anglers Associations Youth Education Committee supported this worthwhile event by conducting a crabbing seminar and supplied Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs packets for all the youngsters. If you're fishing club or organization would like information about JCAA youth education seminars, please e-mail, Gkucharews@aol.com and if time allows we will help support your event.

NATIONAL FISHING AND BOATING WEEK
JUNE 1-10, 2001
The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation recently debuted its national advertising campaign to position boating and fishing as the unmatched leisure activity for true connection with family. Seeking to increase fishing and boating participation, the campaign is aimed at family members who are lapsed or infrequent anglers and boaters.
The nationwide launch of the campaign, to include both print and broadcast ads, will take place in spring 2001. The ad campaign features family members asking the important people in their lives to take them out on the water to boat and fish. Beautiful photography portrays real families, couples and friends fishing from a boat. The message "Take Me Fishing" is then repeated lyrically in the copy by a range of individuals, including sons and daughters, wives and older parents.
Every ad will include the address for a new web site and a toll-free phone number. Designed to help consumers get the information they need to get out on the water, these services will tell them how and where to fish and boat in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner.
To maximize the impact of the campaign, RBFF will offer marketing materials and collateral to its supporters at state and federal resource and tourism agencies, the boating and fishing industry, and at non-governmental organizations through a cooperative program.
The campaign links boating and fishing under the central branding theme, "Water Works Wonders." Supporters can use the campaigns nationally recognizable brand and message to enhance their own marketing and education efforts.
In conjunction with the ad campaign, RBFF will also work with its supporters to implement the first-ever Water Works Wonders Week from June 1-10, 2001. Formerly focusing solely on promoting fishing, the event is being expanded to promote boating as well.
