Youth Education Report
by Greg Kucharewski
(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association May 2001 Newsletter)
YOUTH EDUCATION DONATIONS RECEIVED
The Jersey Coast Anglers Associations Youth Education Committee received several donations totaling $305.00 from the friends and family of Herman M. Wisch. Mr. Wisch supported the JCAA Youth Education Committee and the Shore Surf Club for several years with monetary donations for their youth fishing/drug awareness programs. He enjoyed reading the JCAA Newspaper and was always interested in how JCAA membership organizations promoted healthy outdoor activities for our youngsters. A card of thanks and condolences was sent to each contributor in memory of Mr. Wisch from the JCAA. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Christina Wisch for her kind mention of the JCAA Youth Education Committee to her friends.
SEDGE ISLAND AQUATIC EDUCATION
Funds generated through the Governors Surf Fishing Tournament purchased eleven Bay Rods/Reels as a match grant for instructors teaching sportfishing at Sedge Island, Island Beach State Park, NJ. The new equipment will be used for students attending educational fishing programs at Sedge Island. Island Beach State Park offers several opportunities throughout the year for novice anglers to learn about specific programs that are geared towards protecting our aquatic environment and saltwater fishing. If you plan to visit IBSP please ask the gate attendant for directions to The Friends of IBSP volunteer group. The Friends of IBSP volunteers are always willing to help make visitors feel welcome, and if you like IBSP think about becoming a volunteer. Its a great place to make friends.
NATIONAL FISHING AND BOATING WEEK
JUNE 1-10, 2001
The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation recently debuted its national advertising campaign to position boating and fishing as the unmatched leisure activity for true connection with family. Seeking to increase fishing and boating participation, the campaign is aimed at family members who are lapsed or infrequent anglers and boaters.
The nationwide launch of the campaign, to include both print and broadcast ads, will take place in spring 2001. The ad campaign features family members asking the important people in their lives to take them out on the water to boat and fish. Beautiful photography portrays real families, couples and friends fishing from a boat. The message "Take Me Fishing" is then repeated lyrically in the copy by a range of individuals, including sons and daughters, wives and older parents.
Every ad will include the address for a new web site and a toll-free phone number. Designed to help consumers get the information they need to get out on the water, these services will tell them how and where to fish and boat in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner.
To maximize the impact of the campaign, RBFF will offer marketing materials and collateral to its supporters at state and federal resource and tourism agencies, the boating and fishing industry, and at non-governmental organizations through a cooperative program.
The campaign links boating and fishing under the central branding theme, "Water Works Wonders." Supporters can use the campaigns nationally recognizable brand and message to enhance their own marketing and education efforts.
In conjunction with the ad campaign, RBFF will also work with its supporters to implement the first-ever Water Works Wonders Week from June 1-10, 2001. Formerly focusing solely on promoting fishing, the event is being expanded to promote boating as well.
