NEWARK BAIT AND FLYCASTING CLUBOn March 7, 2000, members of the Newark Bait and Flycasting Club hosted a youth fishing clinic at their monthly meeting. Thirty-one children attended a fishing clinic at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, located in Union, NJ. Children and their families learned about saltwater and freshwater fishing techniques from veteran anglers that belong to the Newark Bait and Flycasting Club. The eventful evening offered plenty of refreshments, tackle goodie bags and prizes for all the participants. Many hours of preparation are needed to run a successful youth fishing clinic. This is one fishing club that is committed to teaching the joys of fishing to our young people. The Jersey Coast Anglers Associations Youth Education Committee supported this worthwhile event by conducting a brief fishing seminar and providing "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" packets for all the youngsters. If your fishing club or organization is hosting a fishing event please e-mail Gkucharews@aol.com and we will help support your event.

Combine environmental education, the excitement of sportfishing and drug prevention into one powerful package and what do you have? The innovative Hooked On Fishing -- Not On Drugs (HOFNOD) program! The program's primary objective is to develop qualified people to implement the HOFNOD curriculum (K-12) through community networks. Through the program, students and families will learn how to fish and to become stewards of the resource. By linking hands-on instruction in fishing and environmental stewardship information, the program introduces valuable life skills, positive role models and healthy alternatives to the many negative social pressures influencing the next generation. Providing the enjoyable activity of fishing and a solid foundation to live a drug-free lifestyle, award-winning HOFNOD is considered to be one of the most effective drug prevention programs available by educators, drug prevention specialists and law enforcement personnel across the country.
