Crabbing Seminar Great SuccessOver fifty children attended the Jersey Coast Anglers Associations, Youth Education Crabbing seminar at the Outdoor Sportsmen Show, New Jersey Convention Raritan Center, Edison. Children and their parents learned a variety of new crabbing techniques and how to prepare hard/soft crabs for a tasty meal. Our printed crab recipe sheets were a big hit at the show and supplies ran out quickly. The following three crab recipes were promised to the parents attending the seminar that did not receive our recipe sheets: 1. Cathys Famous Crab Sauce- 3 large cans of crushed tomatoes, 2 cloves of garlic-minced, 1 tbspn. olive oil, 1 tsp. basil, 1/2 tsp. oregano, 2 tbspn. butter, 10-12 crabs cleaned. Lightly brown garlic in olive oil. Simmer for 30 min. (Minimum) Add tomatoes, basil and oregano. Add crabs to sauce and return to a simmer. Cover and simmer 15-20 min., Remove cover and add butter. Stir gently until melted. Serve over spaghetti of your choice. Top with grated Italian cheese. Make sure there is plenty of Italian bread handy for dipping! 2. Crabs Steamed in Non-Alcohol Beer- Invert an aluminum pie plate in the bottom of a large pot that has a tight fitting lid. Pour in two bottles of non-alcohol beer (brand of choice). Set crabs into pot being sure that the pot is no more than 1/2 full. Cover tightly. Set on stove and bring beer to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer. Steam for approximately 15 minutes. Old Bay or a similar seasoning may be sprinkled over crabs before bringing beer to a boil. 3. Crabs Pozziolle- Quick kill crabs, remove back shell and deadmen, etc. lay crabs in a lasagna type pan. Do not double layer them. Top crabs with canned plum tomatoes (cut into small pieces). Basil and oregano to taste and 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil. Bake at 350 degrees until all crabs have turned in color.

Requests For Youth Fishing ProgramsLong Branchs Anastasia School has been bitten by the fishing bug, along with several other schools in New Jersey and as far away as Schaumburg, IL. So far, as we enter the twenty-first century, the Jersey Coast Anglers Associations Youth Education Committee was inundated with requests to coordinate youth fishing projects for schools and speak to students about the award winning Future Fisherman Foundations "Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs" program. We received several requests from JCAA member clubs and organizations that need our assistance with upcoming youth fishing seminars. We are asking our membership to be patient and understand that the Youth Education Committee consists of a few JCAA members and we are trying to accommodate the needs of many. If your organization would like to check on the status of your request, please phone 732-785-9278, leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.
Product Review-Success Flies Video SeriesYoungsters interested in tying flies can learn to tie saltwater flies, just like the Pros, and the expense is minimal. Paul van Reenen, President of "Success Flies" the Unfair Advantage Materials & Flies, has completed his first two-part 90-minute video series that makes fly tying easy for just about anyone. The best feature about using his materials/method is that when you complete a fly you have a product that works and will hold up to those toothy saltwater critters. After viewing the videos, Pauls fly patterns were easy to tie and he explained his methods clearly. Most fly tying dealers carry his materials and offer help in choosing a starter kit for your needs.
