PRESIDENT’S REPORT

By Mark Taylor

(from Jersey Coast Anglers Association March 2000 Newsletter)

This is the March newsletter, so time is getting shorter before everyone is enjoying the resource. But, to enjoy the resource, everyone should do their share. You may say what share? I mean you need to be writing, calling, faxing, emailing and attending public meetings. We will not have input in the process of managing the resource if we all do not do our part. So don't rely on someone else to perform these tasks. Get involved yourself or don't complain when something does not go your way.

Remember that we at Jersey Coast Anglers Association are in the process of running our High Roller Raffle, which will be drawn on April 25, 2000. This is the night of our regular meeting in Brick. All tickets are to be in prior to the start of the meeting. So don't forget to sell your share. The winners will be published in local newspapers. Good luck to everyone.

We had a booth at the Raritan Show on January 13-16, 2000. I would like to thank those who volunteered their time to work this show. They are as follows: Tom Fote, Rich Pasko, Bill Miller, Vince Bologna, Phil Celmer, Rich Lippo, Paul Turi, Tom Siciliano, Larry Farrell, Jack Miktus, and Bob Lisicki. There were two people that worked the show more than one day. They were Frank Richetti (2 days) and Dorothy Obropta (3 days). With their dedication they made this show a very successful one for Jersey Coast Anglers Association.

The people that attended the mud dump public hearing on January 24, 2000 at Fort Monmouth, in opposition of dumping contaminated mud, should be congratulated. You all showed that you did not lower your standards. We all should thank Congressman Pallone and Senator Saxton for standing by the people in protecting the environment.

We still need club representatives on all our Committees at JCAA. If you are interested, please contact the Chairperson whose name is listed in the newsletter. There are HOT issues in some of the species right now and others are on the way. Don't sit back and hope that someone else will take care of the problems for you.
